Tom Morrell & the Timewarp Tophands
The "How the West Was Swung" Series
Vol 1: How the West Was Swung
"How
The West Was Swung" is the long overdue first album by one of the
most exciting and inventive steel guitarists - and one of the instrument's
great unsung heroes - Tom Morrell. It's a varied, knockout program of
western swing by a red-hot, star-studded Western Swing band.
Although he has played professionally for nearly forty years and despite such
honors as his 1988 induction into the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame, Tom Morrell
has remained relatively obscure. Certainly, he isn't as well known outside of
musician's circles as his talents merit (When I first saw Tom play live, with
Leon Rausch sometime in the late 80's, I thought "Wow - this guy is great.
Who is he?"). Hopefully, this recording will go some way toward correcting
that. But Tom probably wasn't worrying too much about that when he was
recording this album. He was probably thinking about making some great music.
He has!
